Editing your ProLogger II data before upload String was not recognised as a valid DateTime error

Editing your ProLogger II data before upload - "String was not recognised as a valid DateTime" error

In some cases, you may want to edit your ProLogger .csv data file before you upload it to PATorganiser.

Excel can be used for this, but when saving the file from Excel back to .csv format, Excel will change the date format to a different format to the one used by the ProLogger. This will cause the import to fail with a "String was not recognised as a valid DateTime" error.

To avoid this issue, follow the following steps when editing your .csv data file in Excel:
  1. Open Excel
  2. Select Data -> From Text from the menu and open your ProLogger .csv file.
  3. In the Text Import Wizard, in Step 1, select the Delimited option.
  4. Press Next.
  5. Select the Comma check box, and uncheck all other Delimiter check boxes.
  6. Press Next.
  7. In the Data preview section in the lower part of the dialog, select all columns:
    - Select the first column
    - Scroll all the way to the right by dragging the scroll bar to the right
    - Hold shift, click on the last column and release shift to select all columns.
  8. Select the Text option from the Column data format section in the upper left of the dialog. (This tells Excel to not try and understand the date data as dates, but instead treat everything simply as text.)
  9. Click Finish and select New worksheet in the dialog box that appears next.
  10. Make any required changes to the data.
  11. Save the data as a csv file and import it to PATorganiser in the usual way.
